DARRELLE LONDON

EatAPeach-01

Darrelle London’s new CD, Eat A Peach (Bandwidth/EMI) has a lot of people talking. The whimsical indie piano-pop gem is now in-stores and online across Canada. The lead single, Fine, is playing on radio stations across the country, and Darrelle was named Bell Emerging Artist for May 2012. She has made appearances on eTalk, Canada AM, and morning shows across the country. Darrelle’s journey to this exciting moment in time has involved much personal dedication to her craft, and a little help from some unexpected supporters along the way.

Upon discovering Darrelle’s music online, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton wrote on his website, “we are IN LOVE with this artist from Toronto, Darrelle London. She totally hits our sweet spot: female vocalist with a pretty voice singing pretty songs. If you like Sara Bareilles, Colbie Caillat or Ingrid Michaelson, then you will love Darrelle London’s song Understand upon first listen!” Hilton has continued to be a vocal supporter of London’s music, blogging about her career on a regular basis and exposing her music to his millions of international readers.

London’s unique voice and playful songs have also caught the attention of fellow Canadian, Chantal Kreviazuk. The two met in 2010 and wrote three songs for Darrelle’s new album, one of which Kreviazuk produced and sang backing vocals on. Of her sessions with Darrelle, Kreviazuk says, “she sings from her heart, and her gentle unique approach to music is so special, it is a pleasure to be immersed in.”

Darrelle was thrilled in spring of 2010 to learn that international star Sarah McLachlan, along with a judging committee, had chosen her as the Toronto Lilith Talent Search Winner. Performing at Lilith Fair and sharing a stage with Sarah McLachlan was a career highlight and a dream fulfilled for London.

Darrelle’s story is one of following your heart over your head. With the smarts to get accepted to law school, she chose to instead take a chance on her music. So far so good! She has toured extensively, performing at legendary venues such as Hollywood’s Troubadour Club and Hotel Cafe, as well as renowned festivals such as Lilith Fair, North by Northeast, Canadian Music Week and International Pop Overthrow. She has been featured on MuchMusic, ET Canada, MTVMusic.com, Perezhilton.com, CBC, PBS, and on the official 90210 TV Soundtrack CD.

Darrelle’s music reached a new level of international recognition when her song “Understand” was featured in a three-month national ad campaign in South Korea. Radio, TV and film ads featuring Darrelle’s music led to an explosion of fans in the Asian market.

Darrelle looks forward to touring the new record at a mix of festivals, clubs, colleges, and performing arts centres in Canada and the U.S.
